
Brooks, Juda Named 2022 Ernest T. Sigler Award Winners

CHICAGO, Ill. -- University of Michigan junior women's gymnast Sierra Brooks (Plainfield, Ill.) and junior men's gymnast Paul Juda (Deerfield, Ill.) were named winners of the 2022 Ernest T. Sigler Award by the University of Michigan Club of Greater Chicago, it was announced Wednesday (Aug. 24).
The award is presented annually to U-M's best male and female student-athletes from the Chicago area who represent exceptional leadership and performance and has been given since 1977.
Brooks is the fifth women's gymnast to receive the Sigler Award, joining Lexi Funk (2020), Olivia Karas (2018), Katie Zurales (2013) and Katie Lieberman (2006). Brooks heads into her senior season as a business administration major in the Ross School of Business. She was a three-time first team WCGA All-America honoree and a three-time first team WCGA Regular Season All-America honoree in the 2022 season, bringing her career total to six WCGA All-America honors and seven WCGA Regular Season All-America citations. The junior all-arounder was both the Regional Gymnast of the Year and the Big Ten Gymnast of the Year, while earning the Big Ten individual title on the vault with a perfect score. Brooks is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree, a two-time WCGA Scholastic All-American, a CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree and a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar, while also serving as the Student Academic Advisory Committee (SAAC) president.
Juda, the third men's gymnast to earn the award, joins Tim Dehr (1999) and Thomas Kelley (2011). A rising senior, he is fresh off winning the NCAA all-around and vault championships and six All-America honors, coupled with a pair of Big Ten championships in the all-around and on high bar. The Big Ten Gymnast of the Year and College Gymnastics Association MVP also was named Big Ten Gymnast of the Championships as he led the Wolverines to a Big Ten team title. In the classroom, he was named a CoSIDA third team Academic All-American and was a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar.
The award is named after Ernest T. Sigler, who served as the executive director of the U-M Club of Greater Chicago for 35 years.
