INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The University of Michigan softball team earned its 27th consecutive -- and 29th overall -- selection to the NCAA Tournament and will head to the Orlando Regional to open play against South Dakota State at 3:30 p.m. on Friday (May 20) at UCF Softball Complex. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
No. 16 seed UCF will serve as the host school and face Villanova at 6 p.m. on Friday on the other side of the regional bracket. The regional round is a four-team, double-elimination tournament played over three days.
The winner of the Orlando Regional will move on to a super regional against the winner of the regional being hosted by Oklahoma in Norman. That regional consists of No. 1 overall seed Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Minnesota and Prairie View A&M. The super regional is a best-of-three format with the winner advancing to the eight-team Women's College World Series, scheduled for June 2-8 in Oklahoma City, Okla.
Michigan (36-16) is making its 29th NCAA Tournament appearance (1992-93, '95-2022) and has earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament every season since 1995. It is just the eighth time in program history that U-M will play a regional round on the road. The Wolverines are 86-21 all-time in the NCAA Regional round and have won 18 regional titles.
