O'Reilly, Thomson Pace Wolverines to Tie for 15th at Louisiana Classics

LAFAYETTE, La. -- Playing in its third event in just over a two week span, the University of Michigan men's golf team posted a 295 final round today (Tuesday, March 15) to tally an 889 54-hole total and tie for 15th at the Louisiana Classics, played at Oakbourne Country Club.
Heading down to the bayou following its spring break trip, the Wolverines posted team totals of 298 and 296 to position themselves 15th after 36 holes with a 594 first day total. U-M improved with a closing 295, but with its 889 total, the Wolverines ended tied with Lipscomb for the 15th spot.
Like they have done through the last two weeks, graduate student Brendan O'Reilly (76-73-73) and freshman Hunter Thomson (75-73-74) paced the Maize and Blue as they both tied for 52nd with 222 totals. The Maize and Blue duo has now finished as the top two Wolverines in the last three straight events.
Freshman Bavake Sihota got off to a strong start with his opening 73 and followed with rounds of 76 and 74 for a 223 and a tie for 64th. Sophomore Will Anderson was a shot back of Sihota as he tied for 69th (224). Freshman Yuqi Liu rounded out U-M's starting five, tying for 80th with a 230 total.
The Wolverines will have nearly a month of preparation before hitting the stretch run of their spring schedule. U-M next plays on Monday and Tuesday (April 11-12) at Mississippi State's Mossy Oak Collegiate in Starkville, Miss. The 54-hole (36-18) event will be held at the Mossy Oak Golf Club.
