WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team kicked off the 2022 Big Ten Championships on Wednesday (Feb. 23) at the Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center with two medals in the 200 medley relay and the 800 free relay.
The Wolverines finished the first day of the Big Ten Championships with 110 points and are in third place. Indiana sits in first place with 120 points, with Ohio State just behind in second (118 points).
In the 200 medley relay, the quartet of Nadav Aaronson, Will Chan, Gal Groumi and Cam Peel set the tone for the Wolverines, finishing in third with a time of 1:22.90. Aaronson led off the relay with a time of 21.43 and Peel anchored, making the final push for the bronze medal with a split of 18.73.
In the second and final race of day one at the Big Ten Championships, Patrick Callan, Jake Mitchell, Bora Unalmis and Gal Groumi finished second in the 800 free relay with a time of 6:14.59.
Both Michigan relay times were good enough to collect NCAA 'A' cuts.
The Big Ten Championships will resume Thursday (Feb. 24) with preliminaries beginning at 10 a.m. and finals starting at 5:30 p.m.
