
Michigan Sweeps Eastern Michigan, Ohio University in Home-Opening Tri-Meet

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 14-ranked University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team defeated a pair of non-conference opponents, taking down Eastern Michigan 227-70 and Ohio University 211-86 on Friday (Nov. 4) at Canham Natatorium.
The quartet of Mariella Venter, Kathryn Ackerman, Lindsay Flynn and Brady Kendall picked up the day's first win for Michigan in the 200-yard medley relay, clocking in at 1:42.43 and picking up big points.
In the 200-yard freestyle, Katie Crom took over in the last 50 yards to pick up the first-place finish in a time of 1:49.85. Malia Amuan and Madeleine Bauer touched the wall second and third, respectively, to complete the sweep.
Venter and Megan Glass touched first and third in the 100-yard backstroke in 56.51 and a 57.69, respectively. Devon Kitchel, Noelle Kaufmann and Ella Jo Piersma then swept the 200-yard butterfly. Kitchel went a 2:02.13, Kaufmann went a 2:02.96 and Piersma finished with a time of 2:03.45.
In the 50 free, Kendall finished first, touching the wall in a time of 23.45 in the splash and dash. Amuan finished first in the 100 free and Piersma finished second, collecting big points for Michigan. Kaufmann cruised to a first-place finish in the 200 back in a time of 2:02.98, and Crom touched second in 2:04.63.
Ackerman picked up her first individual win of the meet in the 200-yard breaststroke, swimming a 2:20.19. Riley Francis cruised to a first-place finish in the 500 free, touching at 4:56.82 -- four seconds ahead of teammate Christey Liang, who finished second in 5:01.73.
In the last individual race of the night, Crom, Amuan and Claire Donan swept the 400 IM. Crom swam a 4:22.93, Amuan swam a 4:28.16 and Donan swam a 4:28.90
To cap off the meet, the team of Francis, Flynn, Piersma and Glass finished first for the Wolverines in a time of 3:09.84.
On the diving side, Lucy Hogan finished first with 334.35 points, Chrismon Clark finished second (277.90) and Lauren Cheetham finished third (256.50) to sweep the 3-meter springboard.
In the 1-meter springboard competition, Hogan won her second diving event with a score of 282.30, while Clark finished third (267.45).
Other top-three finishers for the Wolverines on Friday include Donan in the 1,000 free, Claire Newman and Natalie Kan in the 100 breast, and Kitchel and Glass in the 100 fly.
The Wolverines will return to the pool on Saturday (Nov. 5) at 11 a.m., when they host No. 18 Northwestern at Canham Natatorium. The meet will
