
Wolverines Win 12 Events to Cruise Past Golden Grizzlies in Rochester

ROCHESTER, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team had a strong showing against Oakland, defeating the Golden Grizzlies 160-97 on Saturday (Oct. 8) at the Oakland Aquatics Center.
Michigan won 12 out of the 15 events against Oakland and in the three events that the Wolverines did not win, they finished second.
The Maize and Blue started out with a win in the first event of the meet and never looked back. The quartet of Noelle Kaufmann, Natalie Kan, Brady Kendall and Christey Liang touched the wall first in a time of 1:42.10.
The Maize and Blue swept two different events, starting with the 200-yard freestyle where Sophia Kudryashova won, Riley Francis was second and Laing finished third. In the 50 free, Abbey Ketslakh, Brady Kendall, and Victoria Bergeli went one-two-three to complete the sweep.
Other first-place Michigan finishers were, Kathryn Shanley in the 1,000 free and 500 free, Kaufmann in the 100-yard backstroke, Ella Jo Piersma in the 200-yard butterfly, Laing in the 100 free, Kan in the 100 fly, Claire Donan in the 200-yard individual medley, Chrismon Clark on the one-meter springboard and the relay team of Kan, Kendall, Ketslakh, and Laing in the 200 free relay.
Michigan had nine swimmers finish in the top three in seven events, grabbing big points to help the Wolverines roll to victory.
The Wolverines will return to the pool on Saturday, Oct. 22 at noon when they take part in the Be Better; Invite, hosted by Calvin University, at the Venema Aquatic Center in Grand Rapids, Mich.
