TULSA, Okla. -- No. 75-ranked Gavin Young and teammate Jacob Bickersteth of the University of Michigan men's tennis team were eliminated from the 2022 ITA All-American Championship on Tuesday (Oct. 4) at Case Tennis Center and LaFortune Park.
Young had advanced to the round of 64 in the singles qualifying draw after topping LSU's Julien Penzlin, 6-2, 7-5 on Monday (Oct. 3). On Tuesday, he won a 6-3 second set against Florida State's Antoine Cornut-Chauvinc after dropping the first 7-5. In the decisive third-set, Young could not keep the momentum going and fell 6-2.
Young and Bickersteth won their first doubles match with a 6-2, 7-6 (4) win over Harvard's Ronan Jachuck and Daniel Milavsky on Monday. The duo battled No. 46-ranked Nikola Slavic and Lukas Englehardt from Ole Miss on Tuesday in the round of 32, but came up short in matching 6-4 sets.
Young, Bickersteth and the Wolverines will be back in action at the Hagedorn Hidden Dual, Friday through Sunday, Oct. 14-16, at the Hogan Tennis Center on the campus of the University of San Diego.
