Wolverines to Host Cornhuskers in Tuesday Night Tilt

The University of Michigan men's basketball team will start its week hosting Nebraska on Tuesday, Feb. 1, in a 2000s Night Flashback game at Crisler Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 9 p.m. on B1G Network with Kevin Kugler (play-by-play) and Stephanie White (analyst) on the call.
Breaking Down the Big Fella
• For a second straight season, Hunter Dickinson leads U-M in scoring (17.0) and rebounding (8.2). Last season as a consensus All-America second teamer, he led U-M with 14.1 points (first frosh since 2018-19; Ignas Brazdeikis) and 7.4 rebounds (first frosh since 2012-13; Mitch McGary).
• The last Wolverine to average more than 17-plus points in a season was Nik Stauskas (17.5 ppg) during 2013-14 when he guided U-M to the Big Ten title (by three games) and was named the Big Ten Player of the Year.
• Dickinson has 14 double-figure games with a team-best seven 20-plus point games including a season-best 27 against Buffalo (Nov. 10) -- the season opener. He has had 20-plus points in five of his last seven games.
• Dickinson has a team-best six games of 10-plus rebounds, which has led to his team-best five double-doubles.
• Dickinson has been on pace to become the first Wolverines to average eight-plus rebounds since LaVell Blanchard's 8.4 per game in the 2000-01 season -- 21 years ago.
• Dickinson had 25 assists (0.9 apg) in 28 games last season. This season (17 games), he has 38 (2.2 apg), including a career-best six against Maryland (Jan. 18). He has eight games of three-plus dimes.
• Dickinson has a team-best five games with 10+ field goals as he is shooting 58.9 percent from the field, which is third in the Big Ten and 16th nationally. Purdue's Zach Edey (70.4 percent) leads the nation and Big Ten.
U-M's Rookie International Duo
• Not only did they battle during their prep days in Florida, but Caleb Houstan (Canada) and Moussa Diabate (France), now roommates, have continued their impact in the first year with the Wolverines.
• Starting all 18 games, Houstan leads U-M with 32 three-pointers. He has used those long-range buckets to average 10.7 points per game this season.
• Houstan has made three-plus three-pointers in six games, including three of his last four games with a career-best five at Indiana (Jan. 23). He has tallied 10 double-figure games with a career-best 19 at Indiana.
• Diabate has continued to clean the glass as he is second on the team with 6.4 per game. He has had six-plus boards in his last nine games, including a career-best 13 against Minnesota (Dec. 11). Overall, he has 14 games of five-plus boards.
• In addition to the board work, Diabate has slowly improved his scoring with his 9.2 points per game. He has posted five double-figure games in his last seven, with a career-best 15 at Rutgers (Jan. 4).
• After a career-best three blocks at Michigan State, Diabate (14) and Hunter Dickinson (16) combine for 30 of U-M's 51 total.
Breaking Down the Rest Wolverines
• Behind Hunter Dickinson's team-leading 17.0 points per game, Eli Brooks is second with 11.3 points per game as he has posted 13 games in double figures, which tied his single-season career best. In fact, he has had 13 double-figure games in each of his last three seasons.
• Brooks has started his last 75 games -- basically his last three seasons. During the stretch, he has missed two games -- one (Wisconsin, Feb. 27, 2020) due to after effects of a broken nose and another (at Minnesota, Jan. 16, 2021) due to a foot injury. For his career, he has 87 starts.
• This season, Brooks has gone 29-for-33 (87.9 percent) from the free throw line. He is 69-for-77 over (89.6 percent) over his last two seasons and for his career, he is shooting 80.9 percent (115-for-142).
• DeVante' Jones has made 11 of his 15 three-pointers over his last eight games. He has also scored in double figures in six of his last nine -- hitting a season-best 17 twice -- at Central Florida and at Illinois.
• Caleb Houstan (32), Eli Brooks (29), DeVante' Jones (15) and Terrance Williams II (12) have 88 of Michigan's 118 three-pointers (75 percent). Williams II is 3-for-6 from long range over his last three games.
• Jones leads U-M with 71 (3.9 apg) assists. He has a season-best eight assists at Nebraska (Dec. 7) and against UNLV (Nov. 19) at the Roman Main Event in Las Vegas. He has seven games of five-plus assists.
• Brooks is second with 52 (2.7 apg) assists -- his third straight season with 50-plus total.
Michigan at Nebraska Earlier This Season
• Michigan traveled to Lincoln to open Big Ten play and came away with a dominating 102-67 victory at Pinnacle Bank Arena on Dec. 7.
• Michigan was without Moussa Diabate, who stayed in Ann Arbor due to illness (non-COVID).
• The Maize and Blue had five double-figure scorers led by Terrance Williams II's career-best 22 and Brandon Johns Jr.'s 20. Hunter Dickinson posted 15 points and 12 rebounds, while Caleb Houstan had 16 and Eli Brooks had 10.
• The Maize and Blue drained 15 three-pointers, with Houstan dropping in four, while Williams II went 3-for-3. The Wolverines added 25 assists on 39 field goals, led by DeVante' Jones' team-best eight. Nine of the 11 Wolverines who play recorded an assist. U-M also had notched 54 rebounds in the game.
• Nebraska's Alonzo Verge, Jr., scored 31 of the Cornhuskers' 67 points, going 12-for-21 from the field. Keisei Tominaga made three triples for 11 points.
The Nebraska Cornhuskers
• Nebraska comes to Ann Arbor playing its third Big Ten game in six days. The Cornhuskers have a 6-15 overall record and a 0-10 mark in Big Ten play.
• Of its 21 games, Nebraska has played 15 home games, and the battle with the Wolverines will be just the sixth road contest this season. The Cornhuskers are 0-5 on the road this season.
• The Cornhuskers' roster features 18 players with 10 listed as freshmen, with one transfer. The remaining eight non-newcomer players are all transfers.
• Nebraska is led by highly touted five-star freshman Bryce McGowens, who leads the team in scoring (16.7 ppg) and has three straight games with 20-plus points. He adds 5.5 rebounds per game.
• Arizona State graduate transfer Alonzo Verge, Jr., averages 14.1 points, 4.8 rebounds and 5.3 assists (second in the Big Ten). He has four 20-plus, including a season-best 31 against Michigan (Dec. 7). He did not play in the Cornhuskers' last game versus Rutgers due to a coach's decision by Fred Hoiberg.
• Junior transfer (Tennessee) Derrick Walker has started all 21 games and averages 9.5 points per game to go with a team-best 5.9 rebounds per game and a team-best 21 blocks. Sophomore transfer (Ranger College) and Japan native Keisei Tominaha lead the team with 33 three-pointers, while freshman C.J. Wilcher has 32.
• Returning from a foot injury, junior Trey McGowens (Pitt transfer and older brother of Bryce) has started five of his six games, averaging 6.8 ppg.

The Jan. 8 Michigan-Michigan State game that was postponed has now been rescheduled for Tuesday, March 1, at 8:30 p.m. The rivalry contest at Crisler Center will air on FS1.
