Alex Brown, Maddie O'Reilly (March 10)
CWPA Defensive Player of the Week -- Junior goalkeeper Alex Brown was instrumental in helping the U-M to an undefeated Wolverine Invitational by recording 16 saves and allowing only eight goals over a four-game span. Brown played the second half in each of the four games, recording wins over Iona, Salem, and conference foes Bucknell and St. Francis. Brown's best game came against St. Francis, recording six saves and one assist and allowing one goal in the 19-1 win. This is the second CWPA weekly award of 2022 for Brown, who was also honored Feb. 14.
CWPA Offensive Player of the Week -- Graduate student Maddie O'Reilly found the back of the net 10 times and recorded eight assists over a four-game span, helping Michigan go undefeated at the Wolverine Invitational. O'Reilly recorded two hat tricks, with both coming against conference foes in Bucknell and St. Francis. In the game against St. Francis, O'Reilly posted four goals, two assists and one steal.
Sophie Jackson (Feb. 2)
CWPA Defensive Player of the Week -- Senior Sophie Jackson was once again instrumental as the Wolverines' second-half goalie at the Michigan Invitational, helping U-M to a 2-2 weekend. Jackson made 19 saves on the weekend, had a .513 save percentage and added four steals. She was crucial in Michigan's upset win of No. 5 Hawaii, making five saves and adding a steal against the Rainbow Wahine, and had a dominant performance against No. 22 Marist, allowing just two goals (one in each quarter) and making seven saves against the Red Foxes. » CWPA Release
Kayla Barone, Sophie Jackson (Jan. 24)
CWPA Offensive Player of the Week -- Senior Kayla Barone kicked off the 2022 campaign in spectacular fashion, acting as the primary scoring weapon on a Michigan squad that went 3-1 with wins over No. 10 Fresno State, No. 7 UC Irvine and No. 4 Arizona State. Barone scored multiple goals in three of four contests, including a hat trick in the Wolverines' thrilling 10-8 overtime win over No. 4 ASU. For the weekend, Barone scored eight goals and added an assist for nine total points, while adding three steals, a drawn exclusion and an .889 sprint percentage. The Mechanicsburg, Pa., native was incredibly efficient in her attacks as well, scoring her eight goals on just 13 shots for a .615 shot percentage. » CWPA Release
CWPA Defensive Player of the Week -- Sophie Jackson played a primary role as keeper while helping Michigan go 3-1 with wins over No. 10 Fresno State, No. 7 UC Irvine and No. 4 Arizona State at the ASU Cross Conference Challenge. The senior played 70 minutes in the cage on the weekend, playing the second half of each game and making 23 saves. In the Wolverines' upset win over ASU, Jackson played 22 minutes and made eight saves for a .615 save percentage, including multiple stops in crucial overtime attacks from the Sun Devils. The West Yorkshire, England, native also had five steals on the weekend. » CWPA Release
