Men's Tennis Announces 2021-22 Schedule

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan men's tennis head coach Adam Steinberg announced the Wolverines' 2021-22 schedule on Tuesday (Sept. 7).
Michigan's season will open Sept. 16-19, at the Battle of the Bay Invitational in San Francisco, Calif. The Wolverines will split the squad the following weekend (Sept. 24-26) as for the Notre Dame Invite in South Bend, Ind., and the Laver Cup in Boston, Mass. The following week, Oct. 1-3, the Wolverines head to the Mississippi State Invitational in Starkville.
The fall championship season begins with the ITA All-American Championship, Oct. 7-10, in Tulsa, Okla., followed by the ITA Midwest Regional Championship from Oct. 21-25, hosted by Michigan State. The ITA National Fall Championships in San Diego and the Big Ten Singles and Doubles Championships in East Lansing, Mich., will conclude the fall season, Nov. 4-7.
The Wolverines will play six dual matches this season against opponents that finished in the final top 25 in 2020-21, including No. 2 Baylor, No. 4 TCU, No. 11 UCF, No. 12 Wake Forest, No. 17 Illinois, No. 21 Ohio State.
Michigan starts the dual season with a pair of non-conference matchups against Virginia Tech (Jan. 16) and Western Michigan (Jan. 21), both at the Varsity Tennis Center, before hosting Ohio State on Jan. 23.
The ITA Kick-Off, Jan. 29-30, will see Michigan take on Wake Forest in Winston-Salem, N.C., with Notre Dame and SMU the other two teams at the event. The overall winner will advance to the ITA National Indoor Championship, to be held Feb. 17-20.
A dual match at Harvard is slated for Feb. 5, and a non-conference match with Illinois at the VTC will take place Feb. 11.
Michigan then will face five more non-conference opponents before the Big Ten schedule begins. U-M will host Notre Dame on Feb. 24 before road matches at TCU (March 2) and Central Florida (March 5). The Wolverines finish non-conference play with two matches at the VTC, where they will host Columbia on March 14 and Baylor on March 20.
The Maize and Blue gets the conference campaign started at home with Nebraska (March 25) and Wisconsin (March 27), followed by a road trip through Illinois to take on the Illini on April 1 and Northwestern on April 3. Purdue and Indiana will be in town from April 9-10. A rematch with Ohio State in Columbus awaits on April 15, followed by an April 17 match at Penn State. Michigan closes out the regular season hosting Michigan State on April 23.
