Hanchaikul Named to Bobby Bayliss Invite All-Tournament Team in Collegiate Debut

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Freshman Patorn Hanchaikul was named to the Bobby Bayliss All-Tournament Team after an undefeated weekend for the University of Michigan men's tennis team.
Hanchaikul won all four of his matches in straight sets, beginning the tournament with 6-4, 6-2 win over Western Michigan's Arjuan Honnappa. On Saturday (Sept. 25), he defeated Nick Williams of Michigan State with matching 6-4 sets and ended the day with 6-1 set victories over Ferdinand Schulter of Western Michigan. On Sunday (Sept. 26), he improved to 4-0 with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Michigan State's Anthony Pero.
Classmate Will Cooksey had an impressive weekend, winning three of his four matches. After falling to Western Michigan's Fynn Lohse in a third-set 10-point tiebreaker 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (7) on Friday (Sept. 24), he rattled off three straight victories. His first win was over Western Michigan's Jackson Boone, 6-4, 6-4, then topped the Broncos' Honnappa 7-6 (5), 3-6, 1-0 (6). Cooksey concluded his first collegiate weekend with a 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (8) match win over Notre Dame's Peter Conkin.
Senior Ryan Fu and freshman Alexander Zederbauer both went 1-3 in singles play. Fu claimed a 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (2) win over Notre Dame's Matt Halpin on Saturday. He pushed his two ensuing matches to three sets. Zederbauer's earned a three-set win over Leon Huck of DePaul, 7-5, 3-6, 1-0 (4).
Cooksey and Fu teamed up for doubles and went 1-1. After an 8-4 loss in Friday's match to Northwestern, they rebounded with a 6-3 win over Wildcats Saiprakah Goli and Max Bengtsson.
Zederbauer and Hanchaikul went 0-2 in doubles with an 8-7 (6) loss to Boone and Lohse of WMU and 6-2 to Vito Tonejc and Marino Jakic of DePaul
Next up for the Wolverines will be Mississippi State's Bulldog Invitational, Friday through Sunday (Oct. 1-3) in Starkville, Miss.
