ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan softball team and head coach Carol Hutchins on Tuesday (Sept. 21) announced the program's 2021 fall softball schedule, featuring three games at the Wilpon Complex, home of Alumni Field.
Michigan will host Central Michigan for a noon doubleheader on Saturday, Oct. 9, before welcoming Detroit Mercy for a single game at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 14. Admission is free to all fall exhibition games.
The fall slate provides U-M softball fans their first opportunity to see the 2022 Wolverine lineup, which will feature 13 returning letterwinners from the 2021 squad that posted a 38-8 record and captured a third straight Big Ten Conference title. Team 45 also welcomes a talented freshman class that includes five nationally-ranked prospects and was tabbed the nation's No. 11 recruiting class by Extra Inning Softball.
The Wolverines lost four starters from last year's team but return four starting field players and a pair of All-America pitchers in left-handed pitcher Meghan Beaubien and right-handed pitcher Alex Storako. Storako also was named the 2021 Big Ten Pitcher of the Year, while returning outfielder Lexie Blair garnered Big Ten Player of the Year honors. Third baseman Taylor Bump joined Beaubien, Storako and Blair on the All-Big Ten first team last season.
