TALLINN, Estonia -- Affirming his status as one of the continent's rising talents in the 110-meter hurdles, rising junior Josh Zeller finished sixth overall in the final at the European Athletics U23 Championships on Saturday (July 10).
Competing for Great Britain, Zeller clocked 13.76 seconds into a 1.2 meter-per-second headwind, just .14 seconds outside his lifetime best in the event. It marked another successful showing at the European level for Zeller, who was the European U20 Champion in 2019 before joining the Wolverines.
He was the youngest man in the final, and one of just two men under the age of 21.
Zeller was strong throughout the rounds the day before on Friday (July 9), as well. He opened the first round with a 13.80 (0.0m/s wind) for the fourth-fastest time of the field, and followed that with a 13.68 (-1.0m/s) in the semifinals to enter the finals as the fourth-fastest qualifier.
He performed well in a strong field throughout the rounds on Friday, as 12 men in the semifinals broke 14 seconds -- and four did not make the final.
