Wolverine Bites
• U-M has won eight of the last 12 Big Ten championships after going 11-0 during conference play in 2018-19. U-M is 122-6 in Big Ten regular-season matches under 14th-year head coach Ronni Bernstein. There was no championship last season with the remainder of the regular season canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
• The Big Ten schedule will consist of 16 matches this season. Michigan will face Maryland, Rutgers, Ohio State, Northwestern, Penn State, Purdue and Michigan State in home-and-home series. U-M will host Illinois and travel to Indiana for its two remaining matches. The Wolverines will not face Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota or Wisconsin during the regular season.
• Michigan has won 14 straight regular-season conference matches, with its last loss coming to Northwestern (4-3) April 8, 2018.
• The Wolverines will be competing for the first time since falling to Duke, 4-1, in the first round of the ITA Kick-Off on Jan. 23. The University of Michigan athletic department paused all athletic activity later that evening before allowing teams to begin to gradually resume activity Feb. 4.
• The Rutgers coaching staff features a familiar face in former Wolverine and three-time ITA All-American Kate Fahey. She is in her second season as the volunteer assistant for the Scarlet Knights following her decorated U-M career. Fahey, the 2019 Michigan Female Athlete of the Year, graduated as Michigan's all-time leader in singles wins (132) and winning percentage (.815).
• Michigan features a pair of ranked singles players in No. 71 Andrea Cerdan, who earned All-Big Ten honors last year, and No. 101 Alyvia Jones.
• Rutgers (0-0, 0-0 B1G) is kicking off its season in Ann Arbor Saturday (Feb. 13). U-M is 6-0 all-time against the Scarlet Knights, including a 4-0 shutout the last time these two teams met April 13, 2019.
• The Terrapins (0-0, 0-0 B1G) will face off against Michigan State in East Lansing prior to coming to the VTC for Sunday's (Feb. 14) match. U-M is 11-0 all-time against Maryland, most recently recording a 5-0 win in College Park during the 2018-19 season (April 14, 2019) to clinch the Big Ten title. Maryland has one ranked singles player, with Ayana Akli coming in at No. 89.
