
Wolverines Blank Boilermakers to Post Perfect Weekend in Hoosier State

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The University of Michigan men's tennis team made quick work of Purdue on Sunday (Feb. 28), cruising to a 7-0 win at the Schwartz Tennis Center to stay unbeaten in the Big Ten at 4-0. With the victory, the Wolverines completed a sweep in the Hoosier State after they topped Indiana, 5-2, on Saturday (Feb. 27).
The Wolverines took the doubles point with No. 2-ranked Andrew Fenty and Mattias Siimar winning, 6-4, at No. 1 doubles. They went 2-0 this weekend and improved to 7-1 on the season. Harrison Brown and Nino Ehrenschneider earned a 6-1 win in their first doubles match together. With the doubles point secured, the match at No. 2 featuring Nick Beaty and Ondrej Styler was abandoned.
Siimar has been quick to earn Michigan's first singles point this season and did so again this afternoon by matching 6-1 wins over Tomasz Dudek at No. 3. Siimar never trailed in his matches and has won his last four matches to start conference play at 4-0.
After the Boilermakers forfeited at No. 6 singles, rookie Jacob Bickersteth claimed his sixth straight win, defeating Andre Suzanne, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5.
No. 28-ranked Styler followed up with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Michal Wozniak at No. 2. Styler is 4-0 in conference singles and has won his last six singles matches overall.
No. 14 Fenty kept the wins coming, taking down Sebastian Welch, 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1 for his sixth consecutive singles win. Tied at 4-4 in the second set, Fenty claimed the last two points to put away.
Beaty kept his team-leading win streak alive after winning his eighth straight singles match, 6-3, 7-6 (3) over Millege Cossu at No. 4. In the first set, Beaty was tied at 3-3 before going on a 3-0 run to win, 6-3. He fell behind 3-0 in the second set before battling to tie it up at 4-4. Tied at 6-6 in the second set, Beaty jumped out to a 3-0 edge in the tiebreaker, dropped two points and recovered to go on a 3-1 run to take the tiebreak, 7-3, and win the match. Beaty is now 10-2 on the season.
Michigan will open a three-match homestand next Sunday (March 7) when they host Michigan State at 3 p.m. inside the Varsity Tennis Center.
