The University of Michigan women's tennis team (4-1, 4-0 B1G) will wrap up a four-match swing away from the Varsity Tennis Center with two Big Ten Conference matches this week, first traveling to Penn State at 2 p.m. Friday (Feb. 26) to take on the Nittany Lions (4-1, 3-1 B1G) in State College, Pa. The Wolverines will end the weekend with their second ranked opponent of the season, facing No. 8 Ohio State (7-2, 4-0 B1G) at noon Sunday (Feb. 28) in Columbus, Ohio.
Wolverine Bites
• This weekend will end a four-match road swing for the Wolverines, who will return to the Varsity Tennis Center next weekend to host Illinois (March 6) and Northwestern (March 7). U-M is 2-0 in true road matches this season, with its only loss coming at a neutral site.
• No. 8-ranked Ohio State is the second ranked opponent of the season for Michigan, which is in search of its first win over a ranked team. The Wolverines kicked off the year against No. 6 Duke.
• The Wolverines are now 4-0 when winning the doubles point this season. Michigan's No. 1 pairing of Chiara Lommer and Jaedan Brown has played at the top spot all season long and features a 3-0 record in dual matches. U-M is 8-1 on the doubles court in Big Ten action.
• U-M is off to a 4-0 start in Big Ten action and has outscored its first four opponents, 25-3. The Wolverines are 21-3 in singles action against Big Ten teams so far this season, with Jaedan Brown leading the way at 4-0. Andrea Cerdan, Alyvia Jones and Gala Mesochoritou are each 3-0 in conference play.
• Michigan will see a familiar face at Penn State, with Wolverine great Ronit Yurovsky (2013-16) serving as an assistant coach for the Nittany Lions. Yurovsky was a four-time All-Big Ten performer at Michigan and earned All-America honors during her final season in Ann Arbor (2015-16). She served as Michigan's volunteer assistant coach during the 2018-19 season.
• Michigan has won 18 straight regular-season conference matches, with its last loss coming to Northwestern (4-3) April 8, 2018.
• U-M features a pair of ranked singles players in No. 71 Andrea Cerdan, who earned All-Big Ten honors last year, and No. 101 Alyvia Jones.
• Penn State (4-1, 3-1 B1G) is coming off a 2-0 weekend with wins over Rutgers and Maryland. U-M recorded a 5-0 win against the Nittany Lions during the 2018-19 season, moving to 29-3 all-time against PSU.
• No. 8-ranked Ohio State (7-2, 4-0 B1G) will host Michigan State Friday (Feb. 26) prior to welcoming Michigan. OSU has one ranked singles player in No. 78 Irina Cantos Siemers, who teams up Kolie Allen to form the No. 42-ranked doubles teams. U-M recorded a pair of wins over Ohio State during the 2018-19 season and leads the all-time series against the Buckeyes, 45-17.
• Michigan recorded a pair of wins last weekend, getting a 6-1 win at Indiana (Feb. 20) before ending the weekend with a 7-0 shutout at Purdue (Feb. 21).
