Michigan Takes Down Wisconsin in B1G Opener

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 15-ranked University of Michigan men's tennis team cruised to a 6-1 win over Wisconsin in its Big Ten opener on Friday night (Feb. 19) at the Varsity Tennis Center.
The No. 2-ranked doubles pair of Andrew Fenty and Mattias Siimar stayed unbeaten, winning their sixth match of the season taking down Wisconsin's top pair of Robin Parts and Gabriel Huber, 6-2. Nick Beaty and Ondrej Styler claimed a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles, their third straight win of the season, to give the Wolverines the doubles point.
Siimar made quick work of Parts, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 3 singles, winning 11 straight games. Beaty won his fifth consecutive singles match and improved to 6-3 in singles play with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Jared Pratt.
No. 28 Styler earned a victory at No. 2 singles, his third straight, with a 6-4, 6-3 triumph over Huber. No. 14-ranked Andrew Fenty clinched the match for Michigan at No.1 with a 6-3, 6-4 win versus Lenard Soha.
Wisconsin took a point at No. 6 singles before freshman Jacob Bickersteth won a 10-point tiebreak at No. 5 against Mihailo Popovic, 10-7. Bickersteth lost the first set, 6-3, before taking the 7-5 second set. It marked his third straight singles win.
Michigan will return to the court on Sunday (Feb. 23) when they host Minnesota at noon inside the Varsity Tennis Center.
