ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's track and field team will compete one last time this winter at the world-class U-M Indoor Track Building as the squad tunes up for the upcoming Big Ten Indoor Championships with the Silverston Invitational this Friday (Feb. 19).
Select Wolverine women will square off with opponents from rivals Michigan State and Ohio State starting at 4 p.m. in what will be the final dress rehearsal ahead of the conference meet in Geneva, Ohio, on Feb. 25-27.
Competition on the Wolverines' state-of-the-art 200-meter hydraulic banked track and the surrounding field event areas is expected to conclude prior to 8 p.m.
Entries will not be finalized until after publication, but among those expected to compete are first-year sprint sensation Ziyah Holman; former conference medalists Katt Miner and Jessica Mercier; weight throw contender Courtney Jacobsen; first-year standout sprinter Hannah Waller; and Theresa Mayanja coming off her career-best pentathlon win last weekend at the SPIRE Big Ten Invitational.
Spectators will not be allowed into the facility as a precautionary measure and to allow for more room for participants from separate teams to space themselves out within the building.
Fans will be able to follow along with a live stream of the action on the track as well as five separate streams dedicated to field event coverage. Regular updates will also be provided through Delta Timing's live results page and the official social media channels of Michigan track and field.
Wolverines in the National Rankings
400 Meters - After making her collegiate debut at the 400 meter distance last week with a Big Ten-leading 53.77 performance that ranks her No. 26 nationally, Holman will take another crack at the distance on Friday. In her sights: a performance in the 52-second range that would put her closer to qualifying for the NCAA Championships, the meet record of 54.27 and the facility record of 52.14.
Pole Vault - The duo of Jessica Mercier and Mia Manson became just the second pairing in Michigan indoor history to both clear 3.90m in the same meet as Mercier went 4.05m and Manson made it over 3.90m in her collegiate debut. Both will be back in action on Friday, with an eye toward becoming the first duo to both clear 4.00m in the same competition.

Team Notes
• Led by head coaches James Henry and Jerry Clayton, the Wolverine women checked in at No. 29 nationally in the latest Track and Field Rating Index (TFRI) from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
• Ziyah Holman remained undefeated in her young collegiate career, this time adding a 400-meter victory in her collegiate debut in the event to a resume already includes the school record over 600 meters and the most viral video in Michigan Athletics history. Her debut performance in the 400 was the fastest ever by a Michigan woman, and moved her up to No. 3 in school history.
• With the indoor track and field/cross country crossover season in March rapidly approaching, the distance squad is positioned well to uphold its standard of excellence on both the track and the trails. Ericka VanderLende blasted a 15:48.88 time for 5,000 meters that ranks No. 2 in school history and fifth nationally in 2021, and is the leader of a 3,000-meter group that ranks ninth nationally in the USTFCCCA Event Squad Rankings. She also is part of the No. 7 mile squad led by All-American Alice Hill and newcomer Katelynne Hart.
• Last weekend saw the Wolverines debut its full pole-vault squad, which is shaping up to be the deepest in school history and among the deepest in the country at No. 14 in the USTFCCCA Event Squad Rankings. Jessica Mercier cleared an indoor-season-best 4.05m (13 feet, 3.5 inches) and newcomer Mia Manson jumped 3.90m (12-9.5), marking just the second duo in school history to clear 3.90m in the same competition.
• Holman, Hart, Manson and Hannah Waller form the core of a first-year class that has already cemented itself among the best in school history. Holman already owns a school record, Hart ranks second among first-year milers in school history, Manson debuted at No. 6 in school history in the pole vault, and Waller is No. 6 all-time at 60 meters.
