
Wolverine Offense Comes up Big in Sweep of Terrapins

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The University of Michigan volleyball team made it a season sweep over Maryland on Sunday (Nov. 7), taking down the Terrapins in straight sets (25-13, 25-14, 25-22) in XFINITY Center Pavilion.
The Terps came into the match leading the NCAA in blocks, yet the Wolverines won the battle at the net 4-0 on the afternoon. Senior Paige Jones led the Wolverines with three total blocks (three block assists).
Michigan's offense was clicking on all cylinders, as sophomore setter Scottee Johnson led the attack to a season-best .404 percentage with her 31 assists. Jones topped the team in kills with 14 while hitting .364, and sophomore Jess Mruzik added 10 kills while hitting .391. Fellow sophomore Kendall Murray added nine kills and hit an impressive .615. Redshirt sophomore libero Hannah Grant led the Wolverines with 17 digs.
The Wolverines set the tone of the match in the first set, taking advantage of several Terrapins errors to win 25-13. Maryland hit -.061 in the set, while Michigan had only one error in 25 attacks.
U-M came out hot again in the second set, hitting an impressive .563 while holding Maryland to a .281 mark and cruising to a 25-14 victory.
Though a closer set in the third, Michigan came out on top once again thanks to another great offensive performance. The Wolverines hit .351 in the final set and held the Terrapins to just .158. Grant capped off the day with a dig-to-kill for the final point, giving the Maize and Blue a 25-22 victory.
Aside from leading in blocks on the afternoon, Michigan out-hit Maryland .404 to .126 and had more kills (43-32), digs (45-42), assists (39-28) and aces (4-3).
Michigan returns to action Friday (Nov. 12) against Penn State for its annual Pink Match at 7 p.m. in Cliff Keen Arena.
