Bickersteth's Run Ends in Third Round at ITA All-American Championships

TULSA, Okla. -- Sophomore Jacob Bickersteth fell Friday (Oct. 8) in the third round of the singles main draw to end his, and the Wolverines', time at the ITA All-American Championships.
Earning a first-round default win over Stanford's Tristan Boyer, who received three warnings for behavior, Bickersteth was set to face Philip Henning in the second round. The No. 15-ranked Georgia Bulldog went down as Bickersteth began cruised to a 6-0 win in the first set, and after dropping the second 6-2, rebounded with a 6-4 win. Henning is the highest-ranked opponent Bickersteth has defeated at Michigan. He battled in the round of 16 versus No. 46-ranked Mason Beiler of Oklahoma, stretching it to three sets. Beiler took the win 6-4, 4-7, 6-1.
In the qualifying singles draw, sophomore Gavin Young won his first two matches. In the first round, he topped Max McKennon of Arizona State 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. The next day, Young posted a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Alexander Hoogmartens of UCLA. Baylor's Tadeas Paroulek ended Young's run with matching 6-4 scores in the third round.
No 114-ranked Patrick Maloney split his matches. After falling to Pedro Vivees Marcos of TCU 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 in the first round, he defeated Callum Gale of Tulsa 6-4, 6-3 in the consolation round.
Andrew Fenty, ranked No. 89, lost his opening match to TCU's Lui Maxted 6-2, 6-4 but did not play again the rest of the week.
Michigan will be back in action later this month (Oct. 21-25) at the ITA Midwest Regional Championship, hosted by Michigan State in East Lansing.
