The third-seeded University of Michigan women's soccer team (12-3-3, 6-2-2 Big Ten) opens the 2021 Big Tournament with a quarterfinal matchup versus sixth-seeded Penn State on Sunday (Oct. 31) at 1 p.m. at U-M Soccer Stadium. The match will be streamed live on B1G+.
Wolverine Bites
• In the latest edition of the United Soccer Coaches poll released Tuesday (Oct. 26), Michigan is ranked No. 17, and is No. 19 in the latest NCAA RPI. U-M also boasts a strength of schedule of 27.
• U-M is outshooting opponents 356-186 and is outscoring them 30-15. The Wolverines rank No. 14 in the NCAA in shots (19.78/match) and second in the Big Ten in the category. Michigan is 11-2-2 on the year when outshooting teams.
• Senior Raleigh Loughman leads the team in all three major offensive categories: goals (seven), assists (five) and points (19). She has scored four goals in the last five matches on only seven shots, and her 19 points rank sixth in the conference.
• Under head coach Jennifer Klein, U-M is 25-7-3 in matches contested at U-M Soccer Stadium.
• Michigan is 2-2 in Big Ten Tournament play under Klein, with both defeats coming against the Nittany Lions in the 2018 quarterfinals and the 2019 finals.
• U-M is 8-0-1 when leading at halftime on the campaign and is 8-1-1 when scoring first.
• Juniors Jayde Riviere (Canada) and Hannah Blake (New Zealand) will return to the fold for the Wolverines' quarterfinal matchup. Riviere missed the contest versus Maryland, while Blake missed both the Penn State and Maryland contests due to national team duties.

Penn State enter with an 11-6 record and 5-5 Big Ten mark. Although the contest is a No. 3 vs. No. 6 matchup, Penn State is ranked No. 2 in RPI (13) among Big Ten teams and fourth among its conference foes in the United Soccer Coaches Poll (receiving votes).
All-American Sam Coffey leads the Nittany Lions in goals with eight, assists with six, and in points with 22. Payton Linnehan and Ally Schlegel are second on the team with identical stat lines of six goals and three assists for 15 points.
Collectively, PSU boasts the No. 2 offense in the conference, averaging two goals per match.
PSU defeated Michigan State 2-1 on Sunday (Oct. 24) in East Lansing to move into sixth place in the conference standings.
Michigan and Penn State faced off Oct. 21 in Ann Arbor, with the Wolverines emerging victorious by a 2-0 count. Raleigh Loughman gave the Wolverines a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute, while junior Dani Wolfe added a score in the 85th minute. Goalkeeper Hillary Beall made three saves in goal for the clean sheet.
