ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan men's tennis players Andrew Fenty (singles and doubles) and Mattias Siimar (doubles) were named Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division I All-Americans, the organization recently announced.
The ITA awarded the honors to 20 singles and 10 doubles players based on the unpublished, double run of the Oracle ITA singles and doubles rankings.
In his second year as a Wolverine, Fenty earned All-American nods in singles and doubles, while junior Siimar captured his first All-America honor in doubles.
Fenty was No. 16 in the final singles rankings of the season (March 8). It was the highest a Wolverine had been ranked at the end of a season since Evan King was No. 12 in 2013. Fenty went 17-9 in singles this season, posting an 11-4 record at No. 1 singles during dual-match play. He was named the Big Ten Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week in three of the eight weeks it was awarded (Jan. 22, Feb. 4 and Feb. 18). Fenty went 7-1 against nationally-ranked singles opponents, highlighted by a win over then-No. 2 Yuya Ito of Texas on Feb. 15.
Fenty and Siimar are the fourth Michigan doubles pair to earn All-America honors and the first since Brian Hung and Matko Maravic in 2007. Finishing second in the final doubles rankings, they are the first Wolverine duo to be in the top 10 since the inaugural final rankings in 1995. Fenty and Siimar posted a 13-2 dual record and went 25-4 overall, which included a 13-match win streak.
Michigan ranked third in the nation with a 14-3 overall record and had just won its Big Ten opener when the remainder of the season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The No. 3 ranking is the Wolverines' highest since 1988, when the team finished third.
The Wolverines had a 10-match win streak during the season that included a semifinal appearance in the ITA National Team Indoor Championship.
