The No. 4-ranked University of Michigan men's gymnastics team opens its 2020 home slate when it hosts No. 19 Illinois-Chicago and Northern Illinois on Saturday (Feb. 8) at 1 p.m. inside Cliff Keen Arena. Michigan alum Josh Levin (1999-2000) is the head coach for the Husky program.
Wolverine Bites
• Michigan enters Saturday's meet ranked No. 3 in the RoadToNationals rankings with a score of 404.800. U-M is also ranked No. 4 in the latest CGA Coaches Poll.
• Michigan's team score of 409.600 is the fourth-highest score in the country this season, while the team's high-bar effort of 69.350 against Ohio State was the top score on the apparatus in the country by .600 over Stanford. On high bar, three gymnasts rank in the top 10 in junior Jonathan Liu (No. 1, 13.925), freshman Paul Juda (No. 2, 13.850) and junior Cameron Bock (No. 9, 13.625)
• Bock has four event titles on four different events on the season (pommel horse, vault, high bar and parallel bars). He also ranks No. 3 in the all-around (83.150) and is in the top-10 on four events: No. 6 on still rings (13.875), No. 8 on vault (14.625), No. 5 on parallel bars (13.950), and No. 9 on high bar (13.625).
• Other U-M gymnasts ranked in the top 10 on individual events include graduate student Uche Eke on pommel horse (No. 8, 13.550) and Nick Guy on vault (No. 4, 14.625).
• NIU's program is in its inaugural season. UIC dropped from NCAA varsity status to club level at the conclusion of the 2019 season. Both are members of the Gymnastics Association of College Teams (GymACT).
• UIC ranks No. 19 (365.000) while NIU checks in at No. 21 (298.300) in the RTN team rankings. UIC's top events are floor exercise (61.650) and pommel horse (59.400), where the Flames are ranked No. 18. NIU ranks 21st on four events.
