Wolverines Defeat UIC, NIU in Home-Opening Meet

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's gymnastics team marked a team score of 413.400 en route to a pair of wins over No. 19 Illinois-Chicago (2-8) and Northern Illinois (0-7) on Saturday (Feb. 8) at Cliff Keen Arena. U-M led the meet wire-to-wire, and swept six of the seven individual events in the victory.
On floor exercise in the first rotation, U-M (8-0) scored a 68.350. The Wolverines were led by freshman Paul Juda, who won the event with a 14.20, a new career high. Michigan's other top finishers were sophomore Miles Miller (13.40) and junior Alan Gerdov (13.50).
Next up on pommel horse, U-M collected a 69.700. Leading the Wolverines was senior Mack Lasker with a 14.25 to win the individual event. Finishing behind Lasker were juniors Cameron Bock (14.20) and Jacob Moore (14.00).
On still rings, Michigan scored a 67.200 with junior James Read earning the event win with a 13.95. Closing out the top-three were freshman Adam Wooten (13.60) and Juda (13.40).
Vault saw U-M score a 70.450, led by Juda with a career-high 14.45. Read placed second (14.25), while senior Uche Eke (13.95) took third.
On parallel bars, Michigan scored a 70.700. Bock captured the event title with a career-best 15.05 score. Juda (14.65) and senior Mitchell Brown (13.90) finished behind Bock.
Michigan closed out the victory on high bar. Juda won the event with a new personal-best 14.30. Wooten (13.50) and Eke (13.40) also placed in the top-three for Michigan.
Both UIC and NIU are members of the club level GymACT and are non-NCAA members.

U-M will host No. 2-ranked Oklahoma next Saturday (Feb. 15) at 1 p.m. inside Cliff Keen Arena.
