
Wolverines to Return to Action, Host No. 10 Golden Gophers

The No. 2-ranked University of Michigan men's gymnastics team (9-0, 1-0 Big Ten) will host No. 10 Minnesota (10-5, 1-0 Big Ten) on Saturday (Feb. 29) at 1 p.m. inside Cliff Keen Arena.
Wolverine Bites
• On a break from team competition, junior Cameron Bock and freshman Paul Juda competed in the USA Gymnastics-sanctioned Winter Cup Challenge. Juda was excellent in the meet and earned a spot on the U.S. Senior National Team. He placed eighth in the all-around competition (81.650) on Thursday (Feb. 20) in session II of the competition. He followed up with third-place finish on high bar, marking a two-day score of 27.500. He also tied for fifth on floor exercise with a 28.100 and also placed eighth on still rings with a 26.950. Bock took 13th in the all-around competition on Thursday with a score of 81.250. He placed third on floor exercise (28.500) and was sixth on still rings with a 27.950.
• Following the Winter Cup meet, NCAA men's gymnastics now transitions to a five-up, five-count scoring system, a departure from the six-up, five-count system.
• Juda and Bock earned the top spots on individual events, with Juda ranking No. 1 on high bar (14.267) and Bock on still rings (14.383). Juda's season-best 14.400 on parallel bars is the highest score in the country on the event.
• U-M ranks in the top five nationally on four events, highlighted by a No.1 ranking on high bar (68.450). Michigan also ranks second on pommel horse (67.950), fourth on still rings (67.983), and second on parallel bars (69.233).
• Saturday's meet will feature two of the four NCAA gymnasts named to the U.S. Senior National Team in U-M's Paul Juda and Minnesota's Shane Wiskus. Juda and Wiskus are two of four gymnasts this season to break the 84.000 plateau in the all-around. At Big Tens a season ago, Bock bested Wiskus 83.600-81.550 in the all-around.
• Minnesota is led by Wiskus, who has the top all-around average in the land with an 84.233, and the second-best score in the country (84.600). He owns the top spot on parallel bars with a 14.633, and has the No. 2 score in the country on the event with a 15.100, narrowly besting Bock (15.050).
• Three of the top-six all-arounders in the country based on scoring average will compete in Saturday's meet in No. 1 Wiskus, No. 5 Bock and No. 6 Juda.
• Michigan leads, 18-4, in the all-time series with Minnesota under head coach Kurt Golder.
• The Gophers are coached by former Wolverine assistant Mike Burns.
