Wolverines Win Four Events in Win Over No. 10 Minnesota

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The second-ranked University of Michigan men's gymnastics team cruised to a 408.900-396.300 win over No. 10 Minnesota on Saturday (Feb. 29) inside Cliff Keen Arena. U-M won four of six events on the afternoon.
Michigan (10-0, 2-0 B1G) began the meet with a 70.700 on floor exercise, led by freshman Paul Juda's 14.450 that was enough for the event win. Junior Jacob Moore, the 2019 Big Ten Champion in the event, made his season debut in the event with a 14.350. Minnesota faltered on pommel horse in its opening rotation with a 61.900 as U-M jumped out to a lead of 8.8 points.
Following a 65.450 on pommel horse, where U-M swept the top three spots, U-M stretched its advantage to 9.8 points. Senior Mack Lasker took the event win with a 14.000, while freshman Markus Shears took second with a 13.750. Graduate student Uche Eke followed with a 13.650.
U-M scored a 67.250 on still rings and a 71.900 on vault, and had commanding 10.6-point lead going into the fifth rotation, parallel bars. The vault effort marked a new team-best on the year. Juda took second with a 14.200 on parallel bars, while senior Mitchell Brown chipped in a 14.000 to place third.
The Wolverines sealed the win on high bar, scoring a 65.750, led by junior Jonathan Liu's event-winning 13.800. Juda tied for second with a 13.75, while senior Thomas Paul marked a 13.450 to place third.
The meet featured a five-up, five-count scoring system.

Next up, U-M will hitsthe road for a crucial tri-meet matchup versus Illinois and Penn State in Champaign, Illinois. The meet is slated for a 2:00 p.m. CST start at the Illini's State Farm Center.
