Wolverines to Watch
Weight Throw: Courtney Jacobsen and Briana Nelson vs. The Field
With seven women in the field who have exceeded 20 meters so far this season, this one is shaping up to be one of the best weight throw fields anywhere in the country this season. Two of those seven -- national no. 27 Jacobsen and No. 31 Nelson -- will be donning the Block "M" and looking to continue their breakthrough season. Both women have held the school record at least once this year, with Jacobsen holding it at 20.15m (66 feet, 1.5 inches) over Nelson's 20.05m (65-9.5). They will have plenty of targets to chase in the standings with national No. 4 Rachel Tanczos of Notre Dame, No. 8 Rebecca Mammel of Michigan State, No. 15 Makenli Forrest of Louisville, No. 17 Abey Kapitan of Notre Dame and No. 24 Haley Hudson of Louisville also in the field.
High Jump: Katt Miner and Jada Wimberly vs. The Field
Fans of high jumping can expect a robust competition with five of the six entrants seeded higher than 1.70m (5 feet, 7 inches), including national No. 8 Miner (1.80m / 5-10.75) and Wimberly (1.72m / 5-7.75) of Michigan. National No. 29 Sydney Banks of North Carolina (1.75m / 5-8.75) and No. 46 Alvia Ash of Louisville (1.73m / 5-8) will provide a tough test for the Wolverines.
Shot Put: Amanda Schaare vs. Kayli Johnson (Michigan State) and Abbey Kapitan (Notre Dame)
Schaare has thrown career-best marks of 15.66m (51-4.5) in each of her past two meets, including a runner-up finish at the Simmons-Harvey Invitational two weekends ago, to move to No. 36 nationally. The Michigan freshman record-holder will get a rematch with No. 39 Kayli Johnson of Michigan State, who was third behind Schaare at the Simmons-Harvey. They also will be challenged by national No. 43 Abbey Kapitan of Notre Dame. The three women's 2020 bests are separated by just four-and-a-half inches.
800 Meters: Micaela DeGenero, Lauren Biggs and Alice Hill vs. The Field
This will be the 2020 debut of DeGenero, who is coming off a breakthrough cross country season and has scored in each of the last three Big Ten Championships meets in which she has competed. Along with 2019 Big Ten mile scorer Hill and Biggs, they will face a field that includes All-American Dillon McClintock of Michigan State and SEC contender
600 Meters: Julia Hall and Chloe Foster
This year's breakthrough 600-meter runner in Hall and last year's breakthrough 600-meter runner in Foster will team up to once more chase the clock as they prepare for the Big Ten Indoor Championships. Hall is looking to dip below 1:31 and join the Michigan all-time top-10 in the event, while Foster is looking to channel the same performances that placed her fourth in the conference in 2019.
