The University of Michigan men's basketball team heads back on the road, heading to Lincoln, Nebraska, to take on Nebraska at Pinnacle Bank Arena on Tuesday, Jan. 28. It is the first of two regular-season meetings. The game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. CT (7 p.m. ET) tipoff with David Feldman (p-by-p), Dan Dakich (analyst) & Molly McGrath (reporter) as the broadcast crew.
What You Need to Know for Tuesday's Game
• Tuesday's game will be the first of two regular-season meetings between U-M and Nebraska.
• After Tuesday's game at Pinnacle Bank Arena, the Wolverines will host the Cornhuskers at Crisler Center on March 5 -- the Maize and Blue's home finale.
• U-M has lost its last four straight Big Ten games. The last time the Wolverines lost four games in a row was during the 2014-15 season when U-M had a string of five straight losses.
• Michigan is searching for its first road win of the season (0-5).
• Both Michigan and Nebraska are coming off heartbreaking last-second losses on Saturday. U-M fell, 64-62, to No. 21 Illinois at Crisler Center after an Ayo Dosunmu free-throw line jumper with under second left gave the Illini the road conference road win. As for the Cornhuskers, Rutger's Geo Baker made a long three-pointer from the left side with 1.1 seconds remaining to give the Scarlet Knights a 75-72 victory at the RAC.
• With the strength of the Big Ten and U-M's challenge non-conference slate, Michigan's regular-season schedule has skyrocketed to one of the best in the nation -- 2nd (Sagarin), 3rd (KenPom) and 4th (ESPN's BPI).
• Juwan Howard announced Zavier Simpson has been suspended for violation of team policies and will miss the Wolverines game at Nebraska. "While we are disappointed with what has transpired with Zavier, we know there are always lessons to learn and grow from. We take these matters and consequences very seriously. Moving forward, we will continue to handle this matter appropriately within our program and basketball family."
• Jon Teske leads U-M in scoring (13.9), rebounding (7.6), blocks (1.9) and steals (1.1).
• Franz Wagner continues to produce with five double-figure scoring tallies in his last six games. With those games, he has improved his average to 10.1 points per game. With five games of 5+ rebounds during the same stretch, he is now second on U-M with 4.4 boards a game.
• After missing six games with a groin injury, Isaiah Livers returned to the lineup starting against Illinois. Unfortunately for Livers, he had to leave the game after aggravating the area around his previous injury. He is listed as day-to-day, while he continues to be evaluated by U-M's medical staff.
Who are the Nebraska Cornhuskers?
• Nebraska brings a 7-13 overall record into Tuesday's game, including a 2-7 mark in the Big Ten. The Cornhuskers have a 5-5 record at home in Pinnacle Bank Arena this season.
• Three players are scoring in double figures for Nebraska, led by 13.3 points per contest for sophomore guard Cam Mack. Graduate transfer guard Haanif Cheatham adds 12.2 points and junior guard Dachon Burke Jr. chips in 11.7 points per game.
• Mack is also averaging 6.7 assists, third-best in the Big Ten and 13th in the country. Mack is fourth in the league, and 31st in the nation, with a 2.46 assist-turnover ratio.
• Over 40 percent of Nebraska's offense comes via the three-point line. The Cornhuskers have seven players with 15+ treys, led by junior guard Thorir Thorbjarnarson's 34, while Mack has 32.
• The Cornhuskers are third in the Big Ten, and 16th nationally, committing just 11.0 turnovers per contest. Nebraska also leads the conference, and ranks 12th in the country, in fewest fouls, committing just 14.4 per game.
• The Cornhuskers are last in the Big Ten in free-throw shooting with a 60.1 team percentage.
• Fred Hoiberg is in his first season as head coach at Nebraska. Hoiberg spent five seasons as head coach at Iowa State (2010-15) and three and a half years as head coach of the Chicago Bulls (2005-19).
