LINZ OTTENSHEIM, Austria -- Action at the 2019 Senior World Rowing Championships continued on Tuesday (Aug. 27), with former Wolverine All-American Felice Mueller in action (W8+) for the first time during the international event.
Meuller and the U.S. eight boat lined up in lane three, between Australia in lane two and Romania in lane four. The Russian boat was in lane one, with the Dutch in lane five and the Danish boat outside in lane six.
In the early going, the U.S. boat started strong. They established a half-length lead over Australia in the first 1,000 meters and made another push past the halfway point to gain another two seats. Down the stretch, the Australians cut into the U.S. lead but the American response was swift, and the U.S. rowed away with a three-quarter-length win in 6:07.04.
The Americans won their heat by more than two seconds to advance directly to Sunday's (Sept. 1) final.
In the meantime, current Wolverines Tayla-May Bentley and Jessica Schoonbee will continue action in the women's pair (W2-) event on Wednesday (Aug. 28) with quarterfinal racing.
