The No. 3-ranked University of Michigan men's gymnastics team travels to Iowa City, Iowa, for the 2019 Big Ten Championships on Friday and Saturday (April 5-6) inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Michigan, the top-ranked team in the conference and Big Ten regular-season co-champion, looks to improve on its runner-up finish from a season ago.
Wolverine Bites
• Michigan captured a share of the Big Ten regular-season title, despite losing to No. 7 Nebraska on March 23. The Wolverines share the title with both Iowa and Minnesota as all three teams ended the regular season with identical 4-2 records. The 2019 season is the first that the Big Ten has awarded a conference regular-season champion for men's gymnastics.
• Sophomore Cameron Bock and freshman Kevin Penev each earned Big Ten Gymnast of the Week honors this past week, with Penev taking home the honor for freshmen. Bock had three event titles on pommel horse (13.900), high bar (13.600) and all-around (83.400) against UIC, while Penev had a pair of top-five finishes on floor exercise (3rd, 14.050) and vault (4th, 14.100).
• Senior Anthony McCallum, the 2016 Big Ten champion vault champion, has found his stride late in the regular season and is ranked No. 2 in the Big Ten on the table with a national qualifying average (NQA) of 14.733, tied with teammate Emyre Cole. Both gymnasts have scored a 14.850 for their season high. Both are behind Nebraska's Anton Stephenson (14.950 NQA).
• Sophomore Jacob Moore enters the meet ranked No. 1 in the conference on floor exercise with a 14.633 NQA and a season-high score of 15.300, which is tied for the top score in the country on the season. Cole ranks No. 6 in the conference on floor with a 14.300 NQA.
• U-M is listed third and is the top team in the Big Ten in both the Road to Nationals ranking (411.300 four-score average) and College Gymnastics Association (CGA) Coaches Poll.
• U-M ranks in the top five nationally on five of six events, highlighted by a No. 2 ranking on vault with a four-score average of 72.050. Michigan also ranks fourth on floor exercise (70.150) and still rings (67.267) and fifth on parallel bars (68.367) and high bar (67.550). At the conference level, U-M is No. 1 on vault, No. 2 on floor exercise and still rings, and No. 3 on parallel bars and high bar.
• On other events, junior Mack Lasker ranks No. 4 in the conference on pommel horse with a 14.067 NQA. Senior Ryan Dunning is fifth on still rings with a 14.10 NQA, and classmate Justin Hopgood has a No. 4 ranking on high bar with a 13.950 NQA.
• Sophomore Cameron Bock owns the highest all-around score in the country this season with an 84.700 and ranks No. 2 in the Big Ten with a 81.533 NQA, trailing only Minnesota's Shane Wiskus (83.350). Bock also is No. 5 in the Big Ten on pommel horse (14.050), third on still rings (14.283), second on parallel bars (14.433) and third on high bar (14.033).
Big Ten Championships History

Bock also took fourth in two of his three events: high bar (13.725) and still rings (13.825).
• Head coach Kurt Golder is a four-time Big Ten Coach of the Year (1999, 2000, 2013, 2014). Under Golder's guidance, Michigan has captured five Big Ten titles (1999, 2000, 2009, 2013, 2014).
