WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The No. 24-ranked University of Michigan women's tennis team remained perfect in Big Ten Conference play by defeating Purdue, 4-1, Friday afternoon (March 22). The Wolverines have won all four of their conference matches this season.
Michigan claimed the doubles points with wins at Nos. 1 and 2 to earn the doubles point for the eighth time this season. The No. 76-ranked duo of seniors Kate Fahey and Brienne Minor made quick work in the top spot (6-1), claiming their team-leading eighth win as a pair and third in a row.
After Purdue took the match at No. 3, Michigan earned the point after junior Giulia Pairone and freshman Anca Craciun won at No. 3, 6-3.
The Maize and Blue's first singles point came from a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 3 by Pairone, who improves to 16-9 on the season. Junior Chiara Lommer claimed U-M's third point of the match, breezing to a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 4, her 18th victory of the season and third in a row.
The Wolverines clinched the match with a straight-set victory by Craciun at No. 5, 6-4, 7-5.
U-M will be back in action Sunday (March 24), hosting Minnesota at 11 a.m. as part of a doubleheader with the men's team.
