The No. 23-ranked University of Michigan women's tennis team (7-4, 3-0 Big Ten) continues conference action this weekend, hitting the road for Purdue (5-8, 0-2 Big Ten) Friday (March 22) at noon. The Wolverines will conclude the weekend at the Varsity Tennis Center where they will host Minnesota on Sunday (March 24) at 11 a.m.
Wolverine Bites
• The Wolverines shut out their two conference opponents last weekend, recording a pair of 7-0 wins over Nebraska (March 16) and Iowa (March 17). U-M has outscored its three Big Ten opponents, 20-1, this season.
• Michigan is in a four-way tie atop the Big Ten standings with a 3-0 record. Northwestern (3-0), Wisconsin (3-0) and Ohio State (1-0) also are unbeaten in conference play. U-M does not face Wisconsin during the regular season.
• U-M is 17-1 in singles action during conference play, with five Wolverines sporting perfect 3-0 marks.
• U-M is 114-6 in Big Ten play under 12th-year head coach Ronni Bernstein. Michigan went 10-1 last season during conference play and has a 3-0 record this season.
• Purdue (5-8, 0-2 Big Ten) has lost seven straight entering Friday's (March 22) match. The Boilermakers started the season at 5-1, including a win over Ole Miss at the same ITA Kick-Off at which Michigan participated. Purdue features one ranked singles player in Silvia Ambrosio, who comes in at No. 31, while teaming with Amina Mukhametshina to form the No. 77-ranked doubles team. U-M leads the all-time series against Purdue, 41-12.
• Minnesota (9-6, 2-1 Big Ten) has won four straight entering the weekend but will host Indiana on Friday (March 22) before coming to Ann Arbor. Michigan leads the all-time series against Minnesota, 31-15, and has won 17 straight over the Gophers after last year's come-from-behind win in Minneapolis.
• The Wolverines remained in the top 25 in this week's Oracle/ITA Rankings, coming in at No. 23. The rankings have switched from a poll to a computer ranking for the rest of the season.
• U-M is 7-0 this season when it wins the doubles point, earning victories over Ole Miss, Michigan State, Texas, Pepperdine, Baylor, Nebraska and Iowa when securing the match's first point. U-M mixed up its doubles lineup in its last two matches, pairing Brienne Minor and Kate Fahey at the top spot. In addition, Ronni Bernstein paired up Giulia Pairone and Anca Craciun at No. 2, the first time they had played together since the ITA Midwest Regional Championships.
• The Wolverines have six players who have reached double-digit singles wins in Kate Fahey (25), Brienne Minor (17), Chiara Lommer (17), Giulia Pairone (15), Alyvia Jones (12) and Anca Craciun (11).
• Kate Fahey has won eight straight singles matches, all coming at the top of the lineup to run her record to 25-5 this season. Anca Craciun is the owner of Michigan's second-longest win streak after going 3-0 this past week with a pair of wins at No. 5 and a victory at No. 6. Craciun's three-match streak has pushed her over .500 on the season at 11-9.
• Michigan features four ranked singles players in No. 4 Kate Fahey, No. 21 Chiara Lommer, No. 29 Brienne Minor and No. 89 Giulia Pairone.
• Senior Kate Fahey heads into the weekend with a 25-5 singles record this season. Fahey swept the titles at the ITA Midwest Regional Championship and finished as the singles runner-up at the ITA Fall National Championships. Fahey is 119-28 in singles during her career, putting her third all-time in wins. Fahey's .809 winning percentage is tops in Michigan history. Emina Bektas (129) and Sarah Lee (125) occupy the top two spots on the all-time wins list.
• After this weekend, Michigan has two remaining home matches. U-M will honor seniors Kate Fahey and Brienne Minor as part of Senior Day against Penn State (March 29) and will host Ohio State on March 31 to conclude the home portion of the regular season.
