Michigan took the early lead by locking up the doubles point behind wins at No. 1 and No. 3.
The top duo of seniors Kate Fahey and Brienne Minor grabbed the advantage midway through, going up a break at 4-2 after winning the final three points of the game. Michigan fell in a 0-30 hole on Minor's serve in the next game, but the Wolverines rallied again with four consecutive points for a commanding 5-2 lead. Michigan broke again in the final game for the 6-2 win.
Michigan held two match points at 5-4 at court No. 2, but Iowa fought both off to tie the match at 5.
At the same time, Michigan's No. 3 pair of sophomores Alyvia Jones and Bella Lorenzini held serve at 5-4. The Maize and Blue jumped out to a 40-0 lead on Iowa's ensuing service game, converting on the deuce point to seal the doubles point with a 6-4 win.
Junior Chiara Lommer was first off court for the second straight day, taking a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 3. After a dominating first set, Lommer raced out to 4-0 lead in the second. Iowa slowly cut into the lead but Lommer still held a break serving at 5-4. The lefty came through in the 10th game of the set, providing Michigan its second point.
Minor held match point at the same time as Lommer at the No. 2 position. After a 6-3 first-set win, Minor went up a break at 4-2. Iowa responded with three straight games for a 5-4 lead, but Minor closed by winning three straight games of her own for U-M's third point.
Jones provided the deciding point in a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 6. Jones broke for a 5-4 lead in the first set, serving out the set in her ensuing game. It was all Jones in the second, as she jumped out to a 4-0 advantage en route to the win.
With the team match in hand, Fahey was the next victorious Wolverine off court. Fahey found herself in a 4-1 hole in the first before getting it back on serve at 5-5. Fahey was broken in her service game but returned the favor in the next game to send it to a tiebreaker. Fahey grabbed a 3-1 lead and never looked back, winning 7-2 for the set. She carried that momentum into the second set, dropping just one game for her eighth straight victory.
Freshman Anca Craciun ran her win streak to three matches, winning 6-4, 7-6 (1) at No. 5. Craciun buckled down in the tiebreaker, winning the final six points to take the straight-set win.
Junior Giulia Pairone kept Michigan perfect on the day, rallying for a 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 4. After dropping the first set, Pairone won four of the first five games of the second set to take a 6-2 win and force a third.
