
Wolverines to Resume Play at VTC with Two Ranked Foes

» Michigan is in the midst of a five-match homestand, which began on Feb. 2. U-M is 2-0 this season at the Varsity Tennis Center.
» No. 20 Pepperdine is making its first trip to Ann Arbor. It is the first time the two teams are facing each other since a 6-1 Michigan win in Malibu, California, on March 5, 2010.
» No. 2 North Carolina is returning to the Varsity Tennis Center for the first time since U-M came away with a 5-2 win over the Tarheels on Feb. 20, 2016. UNC was also ranked No. 2 during that visit.

The University of Michigan women's tennis team (3-1) resumes action this weekend, hosting No. 20 Pepperdine (3-2) on Friday (Feb. 22) at 6 p.m. and concluding the weekend against No. 2 North Carolina (9-1) on Sunday (Feb. 24) at noon. Admission to all matches at the Varsity Tennis Center is free.
Wolverine Bites
• Michigan is back in action after two weekends off, welcoming two more ranked opponents to the Varsity Tennis Center in No. 7 Pepperdine (3-2) and No. 2 North Carolina (9-1).
• This weekend kicks off a stretch of eight straight weekends of competition for the Wolverines. U-M has one more match at home (March 1) before heading outdoors to face Duke at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida. Michigan will host Virginia on March 13 before turning its attention to Big Ten action on March 16.
• The Maize and Blue is in the midst of a five-match homestand that features Michigan State, No. 6 Texas, No. 7 Pepperdine, No. 2 North Carolina and Baylor. Michigan is now 2-0 at the VTC this season and 124-12 at home under 12th-year head coach Ronni Bernstein.
• Pepperdine is making its first trip to the Varsity Tennis Center to kick off Michigan's weekend. The Waves lead the all-time series, 3-1, but Michigan took a 6-1 victory the last time the two teams faced off on March 5, 2010. The Waves are 3-2 on the season with wins over UNLV, Syracuse and Denver.
• North Carolina is coming back to Ann Arbor for the first time since U-M claimed a 5-2 win over the Tar Heels on Feb. 20, 2016. UNC was ranked No. 2 at the time, marking the highest-ranked opponent that Michigan has defeated in program history. Senior Kate Fahey clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Jessie Aney at No. 3. The Heels finished runner-up to Georgia at the ITA National Team Indoor Championship.
• Through four matches, Michigan features a trio of undefeated singles players in Giulia Pairone (4-0), Brienne Minor (3-0) and Bella Lorenzini (1-0). Lorenzini also has teamed up with Chiara Lommer for a 3-0 doubles mark at the No. 3 position.
• With a pair of singles wins against Michigan State (Feb. 2) and Texas (Feb. 3), senior Brienne Minor moved her career record to 92-25 (.786). Minor is the 12th Wolverine to reach the 90-win mark during a career, ranking 12th all-time in singles victories.
• Michigan features four ranked singles players in No. 8 Kate Fahey, No. 21 Chiara Lommer, No. 31 Brienne Minor and No. 85 Giulia Pairone. Fahey and Minor team up to form the No. 24-ranked doubles team.
• Senior Kate Fahey heads into the weekend with a 20-5 singles record this season. Fahey swept the titles at the ITA Midwest Regional Championship and finished as the singles runner-up at the ITA Fall National Championships. Fahey is 114-28 in singles during her illustrious career, putting her fourth all-time in wins. Fahey is closing in on volunteer assistant Ronit Yurovsky's third-place total of 117. Fahey's .803 winning percentage is tops in Michigan history. Emina Bektas (129) and Sarah Lee (125) occupy the top two spots on the all-time wins list.
• U-M closes out its five-match homestand next Friday (March 1), hosting Baylor at 5 p.m. The Wolverines will then head to Orlando, Florida, to play Duke at the USTA National Campus on March 9 in their first outdoor match of the season.
