ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 24-ranked University of Michigan men's tennis team registered a 4-1 victory over Cornell Friday evening (Feb. 1) at the Varsity Tennis Center.
Michigan earned the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots. Connor Johnston and Harrison Brown came back from an 0-2 hole to win four straight games as well as the final two games to claim a 6-3 decision. Teammates Mattias Siimar and Andrew Fenty were in a dissimilar situation. After the U-M pair won the first two games, Cornell claimed the next three for a short-lived lead. Siimar carried his winning ways into singles and logged his first victory of the season at No. 1 against Cornell's Alafia Ayeni. After getting into an early hole, Siimar stormed back and dominated the bulk of play for a 6-4, 6-1 victory. Also impressive was Myles Schalet, who took down Ero Vasa at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 7-5.
