ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's basketball team pulled away from a game Elon squad in the second half on its way to a 70-50 win over the Phoenix on Friday night (Nov. 15) at Crisler Center in the campus matchup of the Battle 4 Atlantis.
Sophomore David DeJulius recorded career highs of 10 points and eight rebounds to provide the Wolverines with a big boost off the bench. Senior Jon Teske went for 16 points, seven rebounds and two blocked shots. Senior Zavier Simpson dished out seven assists to go with 11 points, while junior Eli Brooks posted 10 points.
Sophomore Colin Castleton grabbed a career-high eight rebounds in just nine minutes off the bench.
Michigan (3-0) got off to a slow start offensively, scoring just seven points over the first 10 minutes of the game. A three-pointer by DeJulius put them into double digits and sparked a 10-0 run that gave the Wolverines an 18-11 lead. The U-M defense held Elon (2-2) scoreless for 3:30 to help the Wolverines build an advantage.
DeJulius played a big role in the first half, coming off the bench to lead the team with eight points and a career-high eight rebounds in 14 minutes. A blocked shot as time expired by sophomore Brandon Johns Jr. sent Michigan into the locker room with a 31-22 halftime lead.
The Wolverines shot 54.8 percent (17-of-31) from the field in the second half to pull away and earn their third victory of the season. Michigan dominated in the paint, outscoring Elon 34-16. With the win, U-M will face Iowa State in the quarterfinals of the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament in Paradise Island, Bahamas on Wednesday, Nov. 27.
Up next for the Wolverines will be a home contest against Houston Baptist on next Friday night (Nov. 22). Tipoff at Crisler Center is scheduled for 7 p.m., and the game will be streamed live on BTN Plus.
