SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- University of Michigan men's tennis sophomore Mattias Siimar and freshman Andrew Fenty competed in the Battle in the Bay Invitational this past weekend (Friday-Sunday, Sept. 21-23).
After dropping his first match of the tournament in the main draw to Joseph Guillin of UC-Santa Barbara, Fenty went on to win four consecutive matches in the consolation draw to advance to the finals. Taking on Tanner Smith of Southern California, Fenty won the first set, 7-5, before dropping the second set 2-6 and the match tiebreak by a score of 7-10.
Fenty and sophomore Mattias Siimar earned three consecutive wins in doubles play while advancing to the semifinals of the main draw, before falling, 8-6, to the duo of Colin Markes and Harrison Scott of Texas.
Michigan will send Siimar to the ITA All-American hosted at the University of Tulsa from Monday, Oct. 1 through Sunday, Oct. 7.
