
Siimar's Run Ends at ITA All-American Championships

TULSA, Okla. -- University of Michigan men's tennis sophomore Mattias Siimar competed in the Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships held at the University of Tulsa this past week (Oct. 1-6). Siimar earned three consecutive victories in the qualifying bracket to advance to the main draw.
In the qualifying round Siimar earned wins over Tom Hands (Drake), Ewan Moore (Tulane) and Scott Jones (Tennessee) en route to a spot in the main draw. Two of his victories in the qualifier were in straight sets, as he defeated Hands, 6-0, 6-4, and Jones, 6-3, 6-4. Against Moore, Siimar suffered a 0-6 loss in the first set but rebounded in the second and third sets, 6-1 and 7-5.
Siimar fell short in the first round of the main draw to Aleksandre Bakshi (Oklahoma), winning the first set 6-1 but dropping the remaining two, 3-6. In the consolation round Siimar defeated Sean Hill of Brigham Young before bowing out of the tournament at the hands of Shane Monroe (LSU), 5-7, 7-6(2), 2-6.
Michigan will return to action in two weeks (Oct. 19-23) when it travels to South Bend, Indiana, for the ITA Midwest Regional Championships.
