ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 14-ranked University of Michigan softball team dropped its regular-season finale, falling to Ohio State, 10-1, in five innings Sunday evening (May 6) in front of a crowd of 2,490 at the Wilpon Complex, home of Alumni Field.

The Buckeyes used powerful hitting and Michigan miscues to plate multiple runs in each of the first three innings and build a substantial early advantage. The 10 runs are the most allowed by the Wolverines this season; U-M also committed a season-high four errors.

After OSU scored three in the top of the first, Michigan got one back in the home half of the frame on sophomore third baseman Madison Uden's RBI single through the left side. The Wolverines put baserunners on in every inning, earning five free bases, but struggled to capitalize and left nine stranded in the contest.

Senior right-handed pitcher Tera Blanco (9-4) took the loss, allowing seven runs on six hits and two walks through 1.1 innings. Freshman RHP Sarah Schaefer pitched the bulk of the game, giving up three runs -- one earned -- on three hits and a walk.

The Wolverines (43-10, 18-3 Big Ten), who clinched their 20th Big Ten Conference title in program history yesterday, will be the No. 1 seed at the Big Ten Tournament next weekend in Madison, Wisconsin. U-M will open play against either Michigan State or Nebraska in the quarterfinals at 4:30 p.m. CDT Friday (May 11) at Goodman Diamond.
