WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- University of Michigan men's tennis senior Alex Knight was awarded the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Most Improved Senior award on Wednesday (May 23) at the NCAA Tournament Players' Celebration.
Knight, who was a unanimous All-Big Ten first team selection, enjoyed a breakout senior season in the Maize and Blue. The Miami Shores, Florida, native went 25-7 in singles play, where he primarily played at the No. 1 spot in the lineup, while having similar success in doubles with a 25-10 record. His 25 doubles victories rank tied for fifth all-time in program history and the most accumulated in a season since 2009 (Christ Madden, 25). Knight was ranked nationally by the ITA over the entire season, while reaching as high as third on Feb. 7.
Knight became just the second player in Michigan men's tennis history to accumulate at least 25 singles and doubles wins in one season, while being the 10th player in program history to be a part of the "20/20" club for consecutive seasons.
In his career, Knight has accumulated a 79-44 record in singles play and a 72-21 mark in doubles action.
Knight will conclude his collegiate career at the NCAA Individual Championships (May 23-28), where he qualified for singles play along with fellow senior, Runhao Hua, who he also qualified alongside in doubles play.
