ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's tennis team announced the signing of Ondrej Styler to a National Letter of Intent on Wednesday (Nov. 21). The Prague, Czech Republic, native will join the Wolverines for the 2019-20 academic year.
"Ondrej is one of the best junior tennis players in the world, and we are beyond excited to have him join the Michigan family," said coach Adam Steinberg. "He will make an immediate impact on our program next fall."
Listed as high as 28th in the ITF junior singles ranking and 18th in the combined singles/doubles ranking, Styler earned a 2018 Junior French Open championship in doubles before finishing runner-up in doubles play at the 2018 Wimbledon Junior Championships and reaching the Round of 16 in singles.
Styler also was a doubles semifinalist and reached the singles Round of 16 at the Australian Open Junior Championships, and he just missed out on a medal at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games last month, finishing fourth in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
"Ondrej will be a great addition to our team in singles and doubles play," added Steinberg. "He is a big guy who plays very aggressively and will be a perfect fit for the college game. He has dreams of playing professional tennis, and we hope to help him achieve that."
