
Wolverines Head to Mohegan Sun Arena for the HOF Tip-Off

» Michigan will continue its road week with a trip to the Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off at the Mohegan Sun Casino and Arena in Uncasville, Conn.
» Playing in the Naismith Bracket, U-M will take on George Washington on Saturday (Nov. 17) in the semifinal at noon on ESPN3.
» The Wolverines will face either Providence or South Carolina on Sunday (Nov. 18) in the consolation or championship game.
» Prior to heading to the Mohegan Sun Arena, U-M defeated Springfield bracket members Norfolk State (W, 63-44) and Holy Cross (W, 56-37) in campus-site games at Crisler Center.

The No. 18-ranked University of Michigan men's basketball team heads to Uncasville, Connecticut, for the Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off at the Mohegan Sun Casino and Arena, Saturday and Sunday (Nov. 17-18). First up for the Wolverines will be George Washington at noon on ESPN3. U-M then will face either Providence or South Carolina on Sunday in the championship game at 1:30 p.m. (ESPN) or the consolation game at 4 p.m. (ESPN2).
Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off
• Michigan is taking part in the 2018 Naismith Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament, which began with two campus-site games -- Norfolk State (W, 63-44, on Nov. 6) and Holy Cross (W, 56-37, on Nov. 10).
• Both Norfolk State and Holy Cross are part of the Springfield Bracket, while U-M is in the Naismith Bracket with George Washington, Providence and South Carolina.
• Following the pair of victories, U-M heads to Uncasville, Connecticut, and the Mohegan Sun Casino and Arena for the Naismith Bracket matchup with George Washington (Nov. 17).
• The Wolverines will then play either Providence or South Carolina on Nov. 18, in the consolation or championship game.
A Little Bit About George Washington
• George Washington is 0-3 to begin the 2018-19 season, falling at home to Stony Brook, 77-74, and Siena, 69-61. They then suffered a 76-57 setback at No. 5 Virginia.
• Three players are scoring in double figures led by 13.0 points per game from sophomore guard Terry Nolan Jr. Junior guard D.J. Williams is second with 12.5 per game, while sophomore guard Justin Mazzulla is posting 10.0 per game. Junior forward Arnaldo Toro leads with 9.3 rebounds per game with 12 offensive and 16 defensive boards.
• The Colonials were picked to finish 13th in the Atlantic 10 Preseason Poll. Nolan Jr. was named to the Preseason All-Defensive Team.
• George Washington head coach Maurice Joseph begins his third season as head coach of the Colonials. Joseph was the interim head coach at George Washington for the 2016-17 season, guiding the Colonials to a 20-15 record, before being elevated to full-time head coach. Joseph played at Michigan State for two seasons (2005-07).
A Little Bit About Providence
• The Friars are 2-1 to begin the 2018-19 season, opening with a 77-67 victory over Siena before falling to Wichita State, 83-80, in the Veterans Classic in Annapolis, Maryland. On Tuesday (Nov. 13), the Friars defeated Holy Cross, 70-61.
• Providence has three players who score in double figures, as Alpha Diallo leads the Friars with 20.3 points and 10.3 rebounds per game. A.J. Reeves is second with 17.7 points per game, while Isaiah Jackson adds 11.0 ppg.
• Providence posted a 21-14 record in 2017-18, falling in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to Texas A&M, 73-69.
• The Friars were picked to finish third in the Big East Preseason Poll. Diallo was named to the Preseason All-Big East first team and David Duke was named the Preseason Co-Freshman of the Year.
• Ed Cooley is in his eighth season as head coach at Providence, and has guided the Friars to the NCAA Tournament in each of the last five seasons. Cooley was the head coach at Fairfield for five seasons before moving to Providence.
A Little Bit About South Carolina
• The Gamecocks are 2-1 to start the 2018-19 season following a season-opening 65-52 victory over USC Upstate and an 83-81 setback against Stony Brook. On Tuesday (Nov. 13), the Gamecocks defeated Norfolk State, 81-64.
• A.J. Lawson leads three players scoring in double figures for South Carolina at 16.7 points per game. Keyshawn Bryant adds 11.3 points and Hassani Gravett is adding 10.0 points per contest.
• South Carolina posted a 17-16 overall record a season ago, finishing tied for 11th in the SEC with a 7-11 conference mark.
• Chris Silva was named to the Preseason All-SEC first team. Silva averaged a team-high 14.3 points per game and a team-best 8.0 rebounds per contest a season ago.
• Frank Martin is beginning his seventh season as head coach at South Carolina. He led the Gamecocks to a Final Four appearance in 2016-17. Prior to joining the Gamecocks, Martin was the head coach at Kansas State for five seasons (2007-12), guiding the Wildcats to four NCAA Tournament appearances.
Three Games In …
• Michigan is 3-0 after home wins over Norfolk State (63-44) and Holy Cross (56-37), then picked up a big road win at No. 8 Villanova (73-46) on Wednesday (Nov. 14). [ Recap ]
• After shooting 36.4 percent as a team in their first two games, the Wolverines shot 50.9 percent at Villanova. U-M had tallied 40 total field goals through two games, but made 28 against the Wildcats and had 12 free throws.
• Speaking of free throws, U-M has shot 69 through the first three games, while opponents have gone to the line just 35 times.
• Michigan recorded 52 rebounds in the opener against Norfolk State. The last time U-M did that was against Norfolk State nearly 10 years ago -- 53 on Nov. 25, 2008. So far through three games, U-M has averaged 41.3 per game, more than 6.7 than its opponents (34.7).
• With 10 blocks already, Jon Teske (3.3 per game) has posted nearly a third of his complete total of his first two seasons (33) -- as a freshman, he had seven and last season he posted 26.
• Picking up where he left off last season, Zavier Simpson has 18 assists (6.0 per game) including a season-best seven against Holy Cross and he has just five turnovers.
• After tying his career best with eight rebounds in the opener against Norkfolk State, Isaiah Livers posted his first career double-digit rebound game with a career-best 10 against Holy Cross. He leads U-M with 6.7 rebounds per game. Coming off the bench, he adds 8.0 points per game and is second on U-M with four blocks.
