ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan softball team and head coach Carol Hutchins announced today (Wednesday, Oct. 31) the Wolverines' 2019 schedule, featuring 52 regular-season games, including 14 at the Wilpon Complex, home of Alumni Field.
Michigan's 2019 slate features 15 opponents that reached the NCAA Tournament a year ago, including five teams from the 2018 NCAA Women's College World Series in Arizona State, Florida, Oregon, UCLA and Washington.
Michigan will kick off the program's 42nd year of intercollegiate play at the annual Wilson-Demarini Tournament, scheduled for Feb. 8-11 in Tampa, Florida. Among their five-game slate at the annual USF tournament, the Wolverines will face perennial powers Arizona State and Florida in their second and third games of the season.
U-M will then travel to Chapel Hill, North Carolina, to take on North Carolina and Louisville twice apiece in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge (Feb. 15-17), before splitting its spring-break week between the LSU Invitational (Feb. 22-24) in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and the annual Judi Garman Classic (March 1-3) in Fullerton, California. The Wolverines have a particularly tough stretch at the Garman tournament, facing three WCWS teams in UCLA, Oregon and Washington. The Wolverines will wrap up their preseason tournament schedule at the Sun Devil Classic (March 7-9) in Tempe, Arizona.
U-M will host Kent State for a three-game series (March 16-17) at Alumni Field before opening Big Ten Conference play with a home series against Nebraska -- U-M's first against the Cornhuskers since 2016 -- the following weekend (March 22-24). The Wolverines will also host Big Ten matchups against Indiana (April 5-7), Michigan State (April 23) and Penn State (April 26-28).
Hutchins, the winningest coach in NCAA softball history, is in her 35th season with the Wolverines. U-M returns 15 letterwinners from last season's Big Ten regular-season champion squad, including a pair of NFCA All-Americans, sophomore LHP pitcher Meghan Beaubien and senior second baseman Faith Canfield, and two All-Region honorees, senior catcher Katie Alexander and junior third baseman Madison Uden.
Renewals for current season-ticket holders will be made available in early January. Due to overwhelming demand, no new season tickets will available this spring. Flex packs will go on sale Jan. 15, starting at $50, while group and individual-game tickets will be made available on Feb. 8.
