
Thome Named Preseason All-Big Ten, U-M Picked Third

ROSEMONT, Ill. -- Senior Hallie Thome of the University of Michigan women's basketball team was a consensus pick to the Preseason All-Big Ten team for the second straight season, as announced by the conference on Monday (Oct. 22) as part of Big Ten Digital Media Week. Thome was a unanimous pick by the coaches.
In addition, the Wolverines were picked to finish third in the conference by the coaches after putting together a 23-10 record last season with an appearance in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Maryland and Iowa were picked to finish ahead of the Wolverines by the coaches, with the media selecting Maryland, Iowa and Minnesota to finish in the top three.Â
Thome is coming off a junior campaign in which she averaged 17.4 points per game on 61.6 percent shooting while grabbing 7.0 boards in 31.8 minutes per game. She ended the season with four straight 20-point games and scored in double figures 30 times. She tallied a team-high six double-doubles on the season and shot a career-best 77.5 percent from the free-throw line. She was named to the All-Big Ten first team for the second straight season and picked up WBCA All-Region and honorable mention All-America honors for the first time.
For her career, Thome is one of three players in school history to tally at least 1,600 career points (1,679) and 600 career rebounds (685). She is the career leader in field goal percentage (.620) and is closing in on becoming the third 2,000-point scorer in school history.
U-M will host Findlay in a free exhibition on Nov. 1. The Maize and Blue kicks off the regular season on Nov. 9, welcoming Mount St. Mary's to Crisler Center.
