The Bengals took the first point of the match with a kill, but senior Adeja Lambert answered with a service ace to tie things up quickly. A kill by Katherine Mahlke then put the Wolverines up, but the match was a back-and-forth affair early on, and Michigan was forced to call a timeout trailing 14-13. Michigan's offensive surge continued into the second set, as the Wolverines jumped out to an 8-2 lead and forced an ISU timeout. Michigan capitalized on a .429 team attack average and an impressive five kills by sophomore Sydney Wetterstrom to take the set, 25-13.
The Bengals took the first two points of the third set, but Michigan quickly regained the lead and surged ahead for a six-point edge. The Bengals fought back to tie the score at 10-10 with a service ace and force the Wolverines to call timeout. From there, the Wolverines gained another six-point lead, but the Bengals surged late and forced another Michigan timeout at 22-20. Two kills by Lambert and an ISU error ended the set with the Wolverines on top, 25-22.
