COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- University of Michigan women's swimmers Vanessa Krause, Sierra Schmidt and Miranda Tucker as well as alumna Ali DeLoof (2013-16) were named to the 2017-18 USA Swimming National Team, the governing body announced recently.
Additionally, head coach Mike Bottom and associate head coaches Dr. Josh White and Rick Bishop have all been named 2017-18 National Team coaches.
The 2017-18 USA Swimming National Team features the top six athletes in each individual Olympic event from the combined results of the 2017 Phillips 66 National Championships, 2017 FINA World Championships, 2017 World University Games and the 2017 U.S. Open.
Krause, a sophomore, made the team in the 200-meter butterfly, her time of 2:09.54 ranking sixth in the country for the 2016-17 year. She was a three-time NCAA All-America honorable mention last year as a freshman, scoring points in both the 100- and 200-yard butterfly at the NCAA Championships.
Schmidt, a freshman, repeats as a National Team member, named to the team in the 400-meter freestyle. Her time of 4:07.92 ranked third in the country, trailing only Olympic medalists Katie Ledecky and Leah Smith. Schmidt is coming off a bronze medal-winning performance in the 400-meter freestyle at last month's World University Games in Taiwan.
Tucker, a sophomore transfer from Indiana University, is on the team in the 200-meter breaststroke. Her time of 2:25.82 ranked fifth in the country. Tucker did not swim collegiately last year, sitting out the year after transferring, but was a two-time NCAA All-American as a freshman at Indiana in 2016.
DeLoof made the team for the second consecutive year in the 100-meter backstroke, her time of 59.77 ranking fifth in the country last year. She was a two-time NCAA All-American as a senior in 2016 and finaled in the 100-meter backstroke at last summer's U.S. Olympic Trials. DeLoof recently served as co-captain of the U.S. women's team at the World University Games last month in Taiwan and tied for the gold medal in the 50-meter backstroke.
Joining those four on the National Team are U-M men's swimmers PJ Ransford and Charlie Swanson.
