ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan softball team will play a six-game fall exhibition schedule, highlighted by a home-and-home series against intrastate rival Michigan State. The home game against MSU -- the lone home game of the fall schedule -- is slated for Thursday, Oct. 12 at the Wilpon Complex, home of Alumni Field.
The four-team field at the annual Traverse City College Tournament (Sept. 30-Oct. 1) consists of Michigan, Central Michigan, Saginaw Valley State and Western Michigan, with all four teams facing one another in a round-robin format followed by championship and consolation games. All games will be held at Traverse City West High School. Tickets are $2 for each day at the tournament and available at the gate.
The Wolverines will also play their annual home-and-home fall series against the Spartans, traveling to East Lansing on Thursday, Oct. 5, for a 4 p.m. road slate at Secchia Stadium, before wrapping fall competition a week later, on Thursday, Oct. 12, with a 6 p.m. home game at Alumni Field. Admission is free for both Michigan-Michigan State fall games.
The fall slate provides U-M softball fans their first opportunity to view the 2018 Wolverine lineup that features 17 returning letterwinners and a talented five-member freshman class that combined for four All-America honors and 14 all-state accolades and includes four nationally ranked prospects.
Among Michigan's returning players are five starting field players and a starting pitcher, including a pair of NFCA All-Americans, senior first baseman/RHP Tera Blanco and junior second baseman Faith Canfield, and All-Big Ten honorees, senior utility player Aidan Falk and junior outfielder Natalie Peters.
