BUDAPEST, Hungary -- Junior Siobhán Haughey and alumna Claudia Lau (2012-15) represented Hong Kong and the University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team at the 2017 FINA World Championships, held last week (July 23-30) at Danube Arena.
After finishing 13th in the 200-meter freestyle at last summer's Olympics in Rio, Haughey vaulted all the way to fifth in Budapest and re-setting her school record (1:55.96). She also made the semifinals of the 100-meter freestyle, finishing 14th overall (54.05). Haughey swam on two relays for Hong Kong, splitting 53.99 (school record) to open the 4x100-meter freestyle relay, while also swimming breaststroke on the 4x100-meter medley relay.
She is also slated to swim at the World University Games (Aug. 20-27 in Taiwan) before returning to campus.
