ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 15-ranked University of Michigan men's tennis team took the doubles point and three straight singles matches to defeat No. 29 Wisconsin, 4-0, on Sunday afternoon (April 9) at the Varsity Tennis Center.
With wins on courts two and one, Michigan claimed the doubles point for the 15th time in dual-match play. Alex Knight and Runhao Hua took court two, 6-3, and improved to 10-3 on the campaign. No. 10-ranked Jathan Malik and Connor Johnston clinched the doubles point for U-M with a 6-3 triumph on court one. Kevin Wong and Myles Schalet were tied at five-all at No. 3 doubles, before the match was abandoned due to the clinching point.
In singles play, Knight made quick work on court two, winning his team-leading eighth straight match with a 6-1, 6-0 victory. Wong sealed U-M's third point of the afternoon and put the team on the brink of the match win, taking No. 5 singles, 6-4, 6-4.
The Maize and Blue clinched the match and handed Wisconsin third fourth loss of the season after Hua picked up a 7-5, 6-3 triumph on court four.
The remaining matches were abandoned once the clinching point was secured.
Michigan will conclude its doubleheader later this evening with Aquinas at 5 p.m.
