COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The No. 18-ranked University of Michigan softball team could not quite complete its seventh-inning comeback, falling to Maryland, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon (April 15) at the Maryland Softball Stadium.

Down by two runs in the top of the seventh, Michigan cut the Terrapins' lead in half on a pinch-hit RBI double from sophomore Courtney Richardson. After a sac bunt moved two Wolverines runners into scoring, senior third baseman Lindsay Montemarano singled to rightfield but the tying run was thrown out at the plate. A subsequent groundout ended the game with the tying run on third base.

The Wolverines struggled from the plate, tallying three of their five hits in the seventh inning. Montemarano led Michigan with two hits.

Maryland led from the first inning after stringing together a leadoff double, groundout to advance the runner and an RBI single. The Terps padded their advantage with a two-out solo home run in the fifth.

Junior RHP Tera Blanco (14-3) took the loss in the circle, allowing five runs and two walks while posting one strikeout.

The Wolverines (30-9-1, 10-2 Big Ten) will wrap up their three-game road series against Maryland tomorrow (Sunday, April 16), taking on the Terrapins at 1 p.m. at Maryland Softball Stadium.
